Jaycee Snelson-Week 2: #1 Fan

 Jaycee Snelson-Week 2: #1 Fan

As a family of five our life is one chaotic circus. We are always going from one thing to the next, rarely seeing each other for more than an hour during the day. But, whenever we can we always love spending time together whether that's making dinner, playing board games, or just watching a movie. In fact, just before writing this, my family and I ate dinner together and had a mini game night of Clue, that annoyingly my brother won, Cribbage, which my mom dominated in, and Sorry, which begrudgingly we let my little sister win.

Growing up my parents have always made it a priority that everyone goes to each other's events, no matter how boring I find baseball to be, even if we have a million things at the same time there would always be at least one person in my family that would be there cheering me on. This rule was always a blessing and a curse. It was amazing having people there at your game cheering you on no matter how well you were doing. But, sometimes they could get embarrassingly supportive. And, having to wake up at 7 in the morning on a Saturday, when all you wanted to do was sleep in, to watch a 2 hour baseball game is definitely not my favorite way to spend the day.

But, I know that because of their unconditional love and support it felt like I was able to do whatever I could dream of. I could also confidently grow as an individual and find what made me unique. And I know that no matter what I do or how badly I mess up my family will always be my #1 fan.

  1. Jaycee, I adore the fact that you wrote about family, but specifically the fact you are about how your family supports one another. I find that extremely relatable as my parents are the same way when it comes to sports games. I remember having to tag along for my brother's games every single weekend, so I feel your pain. You wrote that watching a baseball game is not your ideal way of spending a Saturday, so what is?

  2. Jaycee, I adore the ways your family finds and spends time to be together and have fun with each other! The picture you included is truly heartwarming and it just makes me happy to see that you have such a loving dynamic as a family. Getting up early just to watch a sports game sounds tiring, but I’m sure you get to be proud of your siblings as you watch them play. I love that you all play board games too—I’m also a fan of them and I’ll bet you guys probably have a nice collection for your game nights (if not, then that’s just a shame!).

P.S. I’m suggesting this in the most supportive way possible: in the list of games you all played on game night, there should be semicolons after each description of who won each game—it helps clarifies the list. I’m saying this just to look out for any grammatical issues you might make in the future (to save your future formal assignments). Again, I don’t mean any harm and am not looking down on your writing!! Just making sure you know in case you didn’t. I totally apologize if this offends you in any way!

  3. Firstly, it’s great to hear that you and your family make the most of your time together and support one another! But secondly… I’m really impressed that you guys got through three whole games in one night, maybe it’s because me and my friends take forever when we play board games, but I was certainly shocked! I used to have weekly game nights with my parents when I was younger (it was always Monopoly), and this reminded me of that in a nice way. Do you have a favorite game to play? Or one you feel you do the best in?
