Week 1: Who Am I?

 Week 1:

Who Am I? - 08/27 [5:45 PM]

At some point in your academic life you will be asked to write about your identity. Every time I get asked to do this I never know what to write. “What is my identity? How do I even start to find it?” These are the questions I ask myself every time the prompt comes up but I can never figure out the answers to these questions. So, I did the first thing any teenager would do and googled it. That is how I found an article titled 'Who Am I?’ How to Find Your Sense of Self. This article goes over what makes up your identity and how to find it within yourself. So I thought this would be a good place to start both my self discovery and the topic of identity.

The first thing the article covers is what your identity  or, as the article refers to it, your “sense of self” is. The article states that, “Personality traits, abilities, likes and dislikes, your belief system or moral code, and the things that motivate you — these all contribute to self-image or your unique identity as a person”. So, now I'm going to list out some of the things that fit these criteria and see if I can find what makes me, me.

I will start with my personality traits. I feel like some traits that describe me are friendly, compassionate, reserved, and responsible. Next are abilities. Some of my abilities are problem solving, reasoning, athletics, and collaboration. Now, my likes and dislikes. I like playing soccer, reading, eating lots of food, hanging out with family and friends, and cats. Some of my dislikes are, people who are rude, cheese, and watching anime in dub. For my belief system, well you can check out my I Believe Poem for those. And finally, some things that motivate me. That is my family and being the best person I can be.

Thanks for coming along as I figure out what makes up my identity!

  1. Hi Jaycee, I love that you used this assignment not only to share with us who you are, but also to discover it yourself. I can relate to the idea of not really knowing who I am and not knowing how to describe myself to other people. Maybe I'll read that article all the way through to give myself some clarity. I didn't know you had cats; how many do you have? Regardless, I hope these weekly blogs give you some insight on yourself and I can't wait to see what you discover next week!

  2. I really like how you led into the blog with a scenario that happens a lot! It's a nice detail that helps relate the topic to real life. Also, the lead-ins between the different paragraph are very smooth. Do you play soccer just as a hobby, or do you play on an official team? I think your motivation to be the best person you possibly can is very admirable and shows how driven you are!

  3. I love how you began your post by stating how all academics are required to write about their identity at some point, and then continued to, like an academic, pull up an article as a source in an essay! It adds a little irony to your post, which is reminiscent of what we study in class. I admire how you're able to have a wide variety of interests and hobbies while having such a scholarly mindset when writing. That work-life balance is something I should probably get some more of.
